Why Density Matters

Utility infrastructure causes under 10% of wildfires. It's still tied to roughly half the most destructive ones.

California regulators have found that utility equipment historically starts a small share of reported wildfires overall, but accounts for close to half of the state's most destructive fires — because a single ignition in the wrong conditions, in the wrong place, can escalate fast. Fire-weather conditions vary sharply over just a few miles of terrain, which means a utility's PSPS decisions are only as precise as the weather data feeding them.

Our Story

Silas Thorncroft watched a whole valley lose power for one uncertain circuit.

Working in grid reliability at a Western utility, he watched a PSPS event de-energize an entire multi-circuit area because the utility's weather station network couldn't distinguish the genuinely high-risk segment from the neighboring miles that were, by any local measure, calm. The tool to prevent that kind of overly broad shutoff already existed — it just wasn't dense enough. AWS Console exists to make precise, circuit-level data the default, not the exception.
